'Big Baby'

Joe Keyes, best known for co-creating the annual Bob’s Holiday Office Party, continues his merciless dissection of quiet desperation in the Midwest by focusing on a highly strung middle-aged man (Keyes) still living with his diminutive but tyrannical mother (Danielle Kennedy), who is only 16 years older. The man’s curiosity is aroused by the down-and-out young woman (Chloe Taylor) who moves into the next apartment. She has figured out how to convert cycles of abuse, which afflict everyone on stage, into cash by working as a dominatrix. This intermission-less play leaves everyone more or less where we found them, but there are plenty of painful laughs and a few sobering moments along the way, with very little therapeutic preaching.
